The radio music & club scene back in the day rotated latin freestyle from NYC (& other cities), Miami Bass, East & West Coast Hip Hop heavily. Rhythmic radio has been popular in Honolulu since the days of poppin' & break dancing. Portland, OR *IMO there are only a handful of radio stations in the area that oozes Portland's vibe if you know what I mean - the majority appear to be standard of cities/metros of the same size & demographic.Ĩ8.3 FM KBVM: Catholic Broadcasting Northwest from the University of PortlandĨ9.1 FM KMHD: Jazz - all shapes and sizes. However, I tune-in to radio stations occasionally when I travel (just like I did back in the day) because it seems to add another layer to my urban experience (vibe) and/or I stumble across music or artists that are unique to the area.Īnyway, here's a current list of radio stations available in the Portland metro area & my hometown of Honolulu. Radio is not the same anymore IMO mainly because so many are owned by the same large corporations thus have VERY similar playlists. I don't listen to local radio stations all that much (mainly KPOJ - Portland's Progressive Talk in the mornings while having coffee) & i'd imagine it's the same for most forumers here especially those with mp3 players or satellite radio.
